Is Permanent Hair Removal Safe?
September 4th, 2010
Laser hair removal is rapidly becoming one of the most popular cosmetic procedures of our time. Laser hair removal when carried out in an authorised establishment is quick, safe and painless. Side effects can be found in almost all treatments of this nature, even though very mild if any at all, it is always good for consumers to be aware of this fact. A dermatologist’s opinion should be sought if there is any chance of the hair removal treatment causing unwanted side effects. A dermatologist is able to detect any skin problems a patient may have that would be irritated or exacerbated through laser hair removal and can thus advise on the best option to take.
You should be aware of potential side effects even though the risk of complications is, as mentioned before, minimal. The lightening of moles, the darkening of freckles, blistering, inflammation and swelling around the hair follicles are some of the possible side effects. Before the latest methods of laser hair removal became established people sometimes had the shade of their skin altered. Although scarring can occasionally occur, whatever side effects are possible will ultimately depend upon each individual’s unique skin characteristics.
The density of the hair and the area it covers will decide the number of laser hair removal treatments required.
While laser hair removal is neither instantaneous nor permanent, it is highly sought after, effective and has a greater appeal than constant shaving, epilating or waxing treatments.
In October 2010 the Care Standards Act 2000, which currently sets out national minimum standards, will be repealed. All laser hair removal clinics are, until October, administered and monitored by the CQC (Care Quality Commission).
Which laser hair removal lists clinics which specialise in hair removal and intense pulsed light removal treatments.
